Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sheep at Mordon Carrs Between Mordon and Newton Aycliffe in mid-southern County Durham, there is an extensive area of low-lying land, occupied at least in Roman times by lakes, now drained by the River Skerne and its tributaries. It is believed that the lakes and a series of interconnecting canals, were used by the Romans for water transport. http://www.davison03.freeserve.co.uk/the%20ancient%20lakes%20of%20county%20durham.htm. The A1(M) NZ3025 can be seen in the distance, and the East Coast Main Line, although not clearly visible lies between the viewpoint and the motorway.
