English: Shawl, linen, large triangular shawl with both bobbin and needlepoint motifs applied to hand-made bobbin net; deep border of scrolls and flower heads; central design of flower sprays covering nearly all the ground; net ground is `vrai drochel"; mixed lace shawl, raised work on the leaves and flowers, some "point de gaze"; Brussels Duchesse This large Brussels Duchesse mixed lace shawl has been expertly worked in both needlelace and bobbin lace, with a large variety of varied filling stitches. It is likely to have been the lacemaker's "magnum opus", showing expertise in both design and workmanship. It is most likely to have been worn "for show". Alwynne Crowsen, Volunteer, Applied Arts
