Summary
[edit]DescriptionShattered Quayside - Labrador Bay Beach - geograph.org.uk - 627564.jpg |
English: Shattered Quayside - Labrador Bay Beach This photo shows how the landslip has helped to demolish the quay which until 1938 provided access to the Labrador Bay holiday accommodation and tearoom which were perched halfway down the cliff. Access from the land side was by a tortuous path and with an aerial ropeway system for the delivery of goods, so it is no wonder that many preferred to arrive by boat using the landing quay. The hotel and tearooms were destroyed by fire on 25 March 1938 and nature has completed the destruction. This shows the impact of coastal erosion with the encroachment of the sea and the consequence of landslides in the cliffs at the back of the beach. |
