Description
English: Base and broken shaft of Sharow Cross, Dishforth Road, Sharow, North Yorkshire. This medieval cross was once one of eight around the perimeter of Ripon, and is now the only one remaining in situ. It was a sanctuary cross, and any wrongdoer or criminal could claim sanctuary at the Abbey of St Wilfred for a year and a day, once within the sanctuary limits.
