Description

The Sharon Conglomerate is the basal coarse-grained unit in the Pennsylvanian-aged Pottsville Group in eastern Ohio. The dominant lithologies are quartz-pebble conglomerates, quartzose sandstones, pebbly sandstones, and conglomeratic sandstones. Sharon sediments unconformably overly Mississippian-aged rocks such as the Cuyahoga Formation or Logan Formation or Maxville Limestone Considerable paleorelief occurs at the sub-Sharon erosion surface.

Locality: Pleasant Valley Limestone Quarry (southwestern pit), southwest of Dillon Lake, Hopewell Township, western Muskingum County, eastern Ohio, USA (~vicinity of 39° 58' 49.64" North latitude, 82° 08' 05.74" West longitude)
