Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Shanklin station, Isle of Wight When I first visited the Isle of Wight as a boy with my parents shortly after World War II, there were lots of trains almost all over the island, pulled by small tank engines whose numbers all started with a 'W'. Sadly I did not then possess a camera. When I returned in 1978 all this had changed and only one railway line was left, from Ryde to Shanklin. It was electrified and the trains provided were old tube trains from London, as seen here. The signal box on Shanklin station still survived. The electric train was hot, crowded and very bumpy.
