Summary
[edit]DescriptionShake Holes, Dolines or Sinkholes, Bronkham Hill - geograph.org.uk - 1022673.jpg |
English: Shake Holes, Dolines or Sinkholes, Bronkham Hill The top of the hill is riddled with shake holes, some of which look quite dangerous. There are over 200 on Bronkham Hill. They are found where there is a thin sandy deposit over the chalk. The chalk is dissolved underneath and the sandy deposit collapses into the resulting hole leaving a conical depression. The largest one in Dorset is 90m in diameter and 12m deep. On Bronkham Hill it is the gravelly Bagshot Beds that overly the chalk resulting in these holes. |
