Summary

[edit]
Description

Here's a Shacman F3000 coming into Kingston via Spanish Town Road. Shacman is a Chinese truckmaker that has been in the business for over half a century now. The company comes from the province of Shaanxi in central China, and remains headquartered in that provinces capital of Xi'an (one of China's bigger cities with nearly 13 Million people). The name of the company, Shacman, speaks to the product - the "Sha" is Shaanxi, and the "man" represents MAN SE, a German company (actually a subsidiary of Volkswagen) that is one of the biggest truck and bus makers on Earth. Shacman trucks use licensed technology developed by MAN and used in previous MAN models, hence the name relationship. Shacman's are commonly equipped with Cummins transmissions, some of which are built in China.

The F3000 is Shacman's mainline, bread and butter model, and can be bought in a wide variety of configurations (from tipper, like you see here, to tractor head, with 4 wheels or 6, etc, etc). They're common in China and very heavily exported, as is the F2000 (an older model which I believe is still in production), so you can find them all over the world now. They have only recently arrived in Jamaica, with an official dealership (for both Jamaica and the whole of the Caribbean) established in early 2018. They've been received well, so I'm expecting many more to arrive with time.
