Description

Wepwawetmes is de 'Afgevaardigde van de Scheepsbemanning van het Koninklijk Paleis' en zijn oesjabti is getooid in rijke kleding en met een fijn gevlochten dubbelpruik op het hoofd. De stèle waartegen de man staat is beschreven met de tekst van de 6e spreuk van het Dodenboek waarin het beeldje de opdracht krijgt in plaats van de overledene verplichte arbeid te verrichten in het hiernamaals. De attributen die Wepwawetmes tegen de borst houdt, een ba-vogel en een djed-amulet, wijzen erop dat het beeld niet alleen als arbeider wordt aanzien, maar ook als 'sah' of de bevoorrechte dode. Interessant is dat dit beeldje oorspronkelijk voor een andere eigenaar was gemaakt, maar vervolgens geüsurpeerd werd door deze man die zijn naam en titels met afzonderlijke stukjes hout in de inscriptie invoegde. De eigenaar van het beeld was zeker geen arme, gezien het hoge niveau van houtsnijkunst en het gebruik van een houtsoort (ebbenhout) die helemaal uit Nubië geïmporteerd moest worden. (info rmo)
