Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeyit Battal Gazi Külliyesi Türbedar odası in 2012 1468.jpg |
English: This square planned place is covered with a large dome crossed by Turkish triangles. On the north wall there is a rectangular niche with a round arch and a small crenellated window. There is a plain semi-circular altar niche on the south wall. The eastern façade of the building, which opens to the outside, was built with cut stone. The octagonal dome drum and body walls are finished with stone eaves. The dome is lead covered. The basement floor of this place is used as a warehouse. It was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations between 2008-2009. Elsewhere one can find that this section, which was built as a mosque during the period of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev, was later used as a room for the caretaker of a tomb. Turbedarship was an office at that time. On the notice “Semahane” on location it is written that there is a grate at its entrance, with a Basmala in tiles above it, and a (translated from Ottoman) inscription. On that ground one would say that the Semahane is the rectangular space directly behind that grate. It has on its right the entrance to the Gazi’s mausoleum, and to the left there are the cell-like Çilehanes. And straight on there is the mosque.
A problem is caused by the fact that on a map on location the Semahane is not mentioned as such. And I have a text that claims it is called Orta Sofa (Middle hall). And on the perspective drawing on the site of the ministry of tourism and culture a so-called Türbedar Odası is described as another name for the Semahane. I have pictures from before and after the restoration of that room. To complicate matters on the before pictures one sees a connecting door that is walled over after. It would connect to the Orta Sofa, but the only remaining door would connect to the space right before that. Keeping that in mind I kept the name Semahane for the space also called Orta Sofa (Middle hall). And named the room called on both maps Türbedar Odası. |
