Coccinella septempunctata

Often seen as a gentle figure in children's books, the seven spotted ladybird beetle is a surprising Yellowstone predator. Although originally native to Europe and North Africa, this insect has been intentionally introduced in the Americas several times to control pests. Agriculturalists highly value its appetite for many kinds of crop-eating aphids. As both a larva and adult, the seven spotted ladybird spits up digestive juices onto its aphid prey, starting external digestion them before devouring them entirely. The seven spotted ladybird beetle has expanded its range throughout the Americas including South America, Canada and the Nearctic, becoming one of the most successful organisms in the Western Hemisphere.
