Theyhave a width of from two to five miles ^r more, are flat-bottomed, andare floored with glacial deposits. The rivers which occupy them atpresent flow in narrow secondary valleys seldom excavated to suflicientdepth to reach bed-rock. The great Shakwak valley at the foot of the St. Elias range is an ghakwakimportant topographic feature. Its origin is unknown. It is now valley,occupied by a number of diflferent streams and lakes and is crossedtransversely by the valley of the Dezadeash.
