English: U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy Smith, center, assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, waits for instructions while placing a roof truss at Don Joaquin Artuz Memorial Elementary School in Tapaz, Philippines, during Balikatan 2015, April 17. Marine engineers are constructing two classrooms at the school alongside Armed Forces of the Philippines Army engineers from the 552nd Engineer Construction Battalion and U.S. Navy Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 as part of a Combined-Joint Civil-Military Operations Task Force on the island of Panay. Balikatan, which means “shoulder to shoulder” in Filipino, is an annual bilateral training exercise aimed at improving the ability of Philippine and U.S. military forces to work together during planning, contingency, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
