Summary

English: Service Road- what's in a name? Only a short road linking Allaway Avenue to Cheltenham Road, it is only one of three so named in the UK despite it being a common generic term. There lies the clue. It was marked on the very first map of the estate produced in the 1930s; and was only intended to aid drivers dropping off deliveries. At that time the Ordnance Survey just happened to be updating that section of the map and once adopted it had to be kept, despite not being very evocative. |
