Description

Three generations: A.P. Kalganov with son and granddaughter. The last two work in the shops of the Zlatoust plant. Two men and a woman posed outdoors at the Zlatoust arms plant. Digital color rendering from files of three glass negatives: blue, red and green.

In this picture, some minor errors show the way Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii produced color images with black-and white film stock: three photos were taken almost simulaneously through blue, red and green filters and later projected through the same filters to create a composite color image. When the pictures are not taken perfectly simultaneously some errors might creep in when objects move, like the green fringe of the grandfather's coat and the red fringe of the daughter's skirt.
