Cover Crop Field Day Planned in Edmunds County IPSWICH, August 24, 2015 – Area producers are invited to attend a cover crop field day on Wednesday, September 9 at 5pm hosted by the SD Soil Health Coalition, Edmunds County Conservation District, and Ipswich Natural Resources Conservation Service. The field day will demonstrate 4 plots focusing on mixtures targeting salinity, high carbon, grazing, and high nitrogen. Dan Forgey, Agronomy Manager of Cronin Farms in Gettysburg, SD, will be the keynote speaker. He has been planting cover crops since 2006 focusing on diverse cocktail mixes that help catch and store nutrients for the corn crop, stop erosion, smother weeds, preserve soil moisture and supplement grazing. In addition, there will be soil pit and rainfall simulator demonstrations. A free meal will be provided and participants are asked to RSVP by September 4th to help plan for the meal, but it is not required to attend. The cover crop plot is 9 miles West of Ipswich or 6 miles East of Roscoe and a half mile south. Watch for signs along Highway 12.
