Sept 10 Cover Crop Tour to be Held near Bison, SD

Have you been interested in trying cover crops, but don’t know what to Plant? You are invited to attend the first ever local Cover Crop Tour sponsored by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Plant Materials Center, (PMC) and the Perkins County Conservation District. It will be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 1:00 pm. The location of the tour is 8 miles east of Bison, SD or 6 ¼ miles west of Meadow Corner on the south side of Hwy 20 on Ron Seidel’s Land.

Jay Fuhrer, NRCS in Bismarck will be the main speaker. He will discuss the cover crop species planted on this test plot and the benefits of planting cover crops. The Plant Materials Center in Bismarck will be providing information on the seed species, varieties, vendors, and planting information.

This field tour will be a great opportunity for producers to see the variety of cover crops while learning about the benefits from planting them. 24 plots of individual species and 4 plots of various seed mixtures were planted to be evaluated and discussed during the tour.

NRCS and the Perkins County Conservation District would like to thank the Seidel Family for donating the use of their land to do this project.
