Family: Caesalpinaceae Local name(Telugu) Thangedu Distribution: Common in scrub jungles of India and Malaysia Shrubs 1-2 mts tall;Leaves pinnate,leaflets 8-12 pairs, oblong obovate, mucronate, base cuneate truncate, pubescent beneath, stipules large, foliaceous auricled; flowers 1.5-2cm across, bright yellow, in corymbose racemes; calyx limbs 5 imbricate, greenish yellow, petals 5 imbricate, subequal,the lower largest,stamens 10, 3 large, 4 short and 3small and sterile, anther lobes long dehiscing by apical pores, ovary mono carpellary many ovuled, style incurved; pods flat, papery, 10-12 cm long. Bark is useful tanning material; bark powder is a coolant, dried flowers are used for the treatment of Diabetics in Tribal medicine. Refrence: Flora of the Presidency of Madras by J.S.
