Description
Deutsch: Diese etwa 270 Kilometer durchmessende Senke ist vermutlich der Überrest eines sehr alten Einschlagsbeckens auf dem Mars in dessen Verfüllung einst beträchtliche Mengen an Bodeneis vorhanden waren. Plötzliches Schmelzen des Eisens und das Abfließen des Wassers haben Hohlräume im Unterrund entstehen lassen, die daraufhin eingestürzt sind, wodurch diese chaotisch zerbrochenen Landschaften in der Bildmitte geschaffen wurden. Am südwestlichen Rand dieses Becken befindet sich der Einschlagskrater Holden (hier nicht im Bild), weshalb diese Senke zuweilen auch inoffiziell „Holden Basin“ genannt wird. Norden ist im Bild rechts.
