A Big Gold Robbery Sand for Gold

A cleverly planned and wholly successful robbery of bullion is reported from South Africa. A quantity of gold was being conveyed, on behalf of a Capetown bank, between the Transvaal and Buluwayo, the old capital of Matabeleland and Lobengula's headquarters. The thieves managed to gain access to the gold during the coach journey, and to effect a startling and, for them, profitable exchange.

On arrival of the coach at its destination, an examination was made on giving delivery of the precious freight. It was then foudn that gold to the value of £12,000 had been stolen, and the bags in which it had been contained filled with sand. The police were immediately apprised, and an investigation is proceeding; but so far, although, naturally, suspicions are entertained, no arrests are reported.
