Summary
[edit]DescriptionSeilo - a Calvinist 'Cathedral' - geograph.org.uk - 592251.jpg |
English: Seilo - a Calvinist 'Cathedral'. This ornate baroque style edifice in Arvon Avenue, with its huge sandstone cupolas, was built between 1901/05 - actually to fit a new mammoth organ. It replaced a previously more modest chapel. Siloh (later changed to Seilo) was a Calvinistic Methodist chapel and was designed to seat a 1000 worshippers. Today, with the decline in chapel attendence, which has been particularly marked amongst the Welsh speaking section of the community, Seilo has now become the United Welsh Chapel where members of all the Welsh Nonconformist denominations worship through the medium of Welsh.
