The general crop can bedelayed until later, but we have met with better success fromsowing all the varieties comparativ<?ly early, dependmg for suc-cession upon selecting sorts that foUow each other in ripening. The pea.s will mature earlier if _ covered only one inch deep, andwhere earliness is the most im-portant thing, they may betreateal in that way^ but largerfKxls and more of them will beproduced if the seed is plantedin trenches three to six inchesdeep, covered icith only one ortico inches of soil, and when theplants are five or six incheshigh, filling the trench levelwith the surface: this willsecure deep rooting, preventmildew and prolong the bearingseason.
