Summary
[edit]DescriptionSediment Steinblock-Travertin Neckar Bad-Cannstatt.jpg |
English: Travertine, sedimented by river Neckar and cut as a block of ca. 1 x 1 x 2 m in the former quarry of “Fa Haas” in Stuttgart-Münster. Exploitation was abolished by 1988. The Travertine was slowly sedimented in interglacial times of the Pliocene: Early and late Riss glaciation (“Hoßkirch Complex”), the Eemian (early Würm glaciation) and warm times of Holocene. The karstwaters emerged from karst springs in Upper- and Middle Muschelkalk. The chemically precipitated Travertine limestone tends to form thin fine layers of sediment. Remarkable are some beddings, coloured kind of brownish, a colour typical for a product of chemical weathering, such as oxidised iron. The Travertine complex tops old fluvial terraces of river Neckar, the peak is 30 m thickness. |
