English: The poisoner Frederick Seddon being sentenced to death in 1912. He was executed on 18 April that year. This is one of the few known photographs of the death sentence being passed in an English court (see page 122 of 'Crime and Detection' by Julian Symons (Studio Vista 1966) which shows an image of Mr Justice Avory with a black cap clearly on his head passing sentence on chauffeur Thomas Alloway in 1922.) |
