In the United States geological reportssome twenty years ago notice is given ota ledge of pure white sandstone in Ama-dor county, California. The remarkable feature of the case isthe fact that nearly twenty years haveelapsed before this ledge was developed,and the product placed upon the mar-ket as a commercial proposition by thelone Sandstone Company, with offices inthe Ochsner Building, Sacramento. Both white and red sandstone arequarried by the company, the red sand-stone being a bright salmon color. Thecrushing- strength of the white stone isfrom 4000 to 6000 pounds per squareinch, and that of the red stone is 1200pi mnds. The stone is easily carved when firstquarried and like all sandstone, hardenson exposure to the air.
