English: Kent Murata, director of Installations, Environment and Logistics, points out to Secretary of the Navy Raymond Maybus the energy plants near the flight line at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Tuesday. Murata said MCB Hawaii will be completely energy self sufficient by 2015. To explain the base’s outlook, Murata showed Mabus the layout of the base, Net Zero housing and the new bachelor enlisted quarters construction site. Murata explained that there is no, ‘silver bullet to becoming energy independent.’ Wind, solar, bio fuel and other renewable energy sources individually are not enough to fix the problem but rather a combination of several systems using one system’s strength to compensate for the deficiency in another, such as using bio fuel to reinforce the lack of energy produced by solar panels at night.
