Title |
Seattle waterfront NE from Cherry St., 1900 |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Transcribed from photograph: "Waterfront. 1900. Looking Northeast from the foot of Cherry St. Ships: 1. City of Seattle. 2. George W. Elder. 3. Umatilla." |
||||||||||||||||||||
Date |
1900 Date might be a bit earlier than 1900 because Pier A still says "Oregon Improvement Co." If that is correct, then some other images are mis-dated. Hard to say where this was taken from; seems too far northwest to be the King Street Coal Wharf, might have been aboard a ship but it's rather high up for that. Seattle Public Library attributes this to Asahel Curtis (presumably based on his mark on the photo) but at http://cdm16118.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15015coll4/id/1392 they have the same photo, differently cropped, with Boyd & Braas's mark and attributed to them. It is much more likely that Asahel Curtis would have reprinted a Boyd & Braas photo than vice versa. |
