| Description | The photo was taken in June, 1965, from a Pacific Northern Airlines Lockheed Constellation. We had taken off for Kodiak, Alaska, but the aircraft developed electrical problems so they had to dump most of the fuel and return to Seattle. I took this photo while we were waiting in the airport for the repairs to be made. (Actually, I was hoping that they'd switch us to another plane, but that didn't happen.) When they were dumping the fuel over the Pacific Ocean, the pilot and co-pilot kept coming back into the passenger area to look out the windows and asked us all to let them know if we saw any flames! I don't know if it was this particular aircraft or this type in general, but the Constellation was one of the most uncomfortable airplanes I've ever ridden --- mainly because of the vibration. |
