Summary
[edit]DescriptionSealing The Kettle - geograph.org.uk - 1458724.jpg |
English: Sealing The Kettle. This is the third stage of the burn to make Charcoal at Essex Wildlife Trust's Pound Wood http://www.essexwt.org.uk/visitor_centres__nature_reserves/pound_wood_nature_reserve/ Chimneys are added, the base and lid are sealed to exclude air now one has to wait. When the burn is complete the kettle could yield as much as 100 bags of barbecue charcoal. This is an environmentally friendly fuel as it comes from coppiced timber, coppicing actually enhances the biodiversity in a wood and encourages tree growth that captures CO2 from the atmosphere, it is a method of production is (almost) carbon neutral and is sustainable indefinitely if the woodland is properly managed and not over exploited. Much of the cheap charcoal available on garage forecourts comes from clear felled virgin tropical forests. Please buy your BBQ charcoal from your local Wildlife Trust and be sure you are helping the environment. There are about eight burns a year in Pound Wood. The next stage the following day is 1458994 |
