Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sea Buckthorn at Yellowcraig Sea Buckthorn [Hippophae rhamnoides] is a common, and very spiny, shrub of dune habitats, native to Britain and often planted to stabilize sandy soil in coastal areas. There are separate male and female plants, and it spreads vegetatively, so there are ofthen large areas of one sex or the other. Areas of female plants are recognisable by the striking orange fruits, which often last well into the new year on leafless branches as, although they are rich in vitamin C, they are not very sweet and attractive to birds while tastier fruits and seeds are available.
