Summary

[edit]
Description

German WW2 era Tracked Mine / demolition vehicle Official designation:- Sd.Kfz.303 Leichter Ladungsträger Goliath (Goliath Light Charge Carrier) Known to the Allies as ‘Beelte Tanks’, Goliaths were wire controlled miniature tanks of which the petrol-powered variant could carry 220lb of high explosives. Detonated remotely, they could be used to destroy tanks, buildings or bridges, and to disrupt infantry formations. 7,564 of all models were built between 1942 and 1944. Although effective if correctly positioned, they were vulnerable due to their size and slow speed and most failed to reach their targets. This is a petrol-powered Sd.Kfz.303 variant, of which 4,929 were produced between 1943 and 1945. It is on display in the ‘Germany 1934-1945’ hall. Musée des Blindés, Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
