Italiano: Scuola Galli Breda
English: The Galli Breda School
The school named after a Sesto victim of the First World War, Mario Galli, was constructed in this period, in the late ‘20s and early ‘30s. The Lower Technical Institute, initially housed in the new structure set up in Sesto San Giovanni before the Gentile Reform, was intended for “non-disadvantaged” families of the lower middle class. Numerous professional schools were already present in the Sesto area, the so-called “workshop schools” devoted to the vocational training of work ing-class children, largely subsidised by the mechanical and steelworking industries present in Sesto San Giovanni. In 1937 it was transformed into a Civic Commercial Professional School and named after E. Breda. In 1939 it became the Scuola Regia. The building is made up of two structures, one L-shaped – the Galli side – composed of two storeys above ground and a basement for a cellar, and one C-shaped – the Breda side – connected by a small, one-storey building, used as a gymnasium on Viale Matteotti. The south-facing building marks the corner of Via Leonardo and Viale Matteotti and has an imposing façade, typical of the rationalist architecture of the period. The garden areas insideare currently smaller today due to the building of the Breda Middle School in the ‘80s. The building is part of the project of Sesto San Giovanni per l'UNESCO, as one of the buildings of the application for inscription on the world heritage list for humanity in the evolving cultural landscape category.
