Summary

[edit]
Description
English: ANCIENT STUPA, MONASTERY AND CHAITYA TOGETHER WITH ADJACENT LAND, PARIHASPORA Parihaspura was an ancient city founded by King Lalitaditya Muktapida of the Karkota dynasty in the first half of 8th century C.E. The area was selected by the King for erection of a new capital for its ever expanding kingdom. As per the record of Kalhana's Rajatarangini, the city was in ruins. Three mounds identified as Buddhist edifice were discovered by Sir Aurel Stein and he denoted these as Stupa, Rajvihara and Chaitya. The stupa at Parihaspora is also called stupa of Chanuka owing to erection of the structure by the Minister Chanuka. The Rajvihara or the royal monastery is situated on the south of the stupa and further south lays chaitya hall. The common feature of all these three ruins is the enormous size of limestone blocks used in the construction of the Monuments.
