...Nous en donnons ici même un exemple frappant, figure 27, tiré d'une corniche de la petite église de Sainte-Croix, à Montmajour près Arles. Dans un grand nombre de monuments du XII^e siècle, de la Provence, à côté d'un ornement évidemment copié sur la sculpture romano-grecque de Syrie, se développe une frise, se pose un chapiteau, que l'on pourrait croire empruntés à quelques ruines gallo-romaines...
