English: Scullers on Exeter Canal. The Exeter Canal is the 2nd oldest man-made waterway in England. It was started in 1563 by the citizens of Exeter because the Earls and Countesses of Devon had been blocking navigation. See http://www.exetermemories.co.uk/EM/quay.html and http://www.canalmuseum.org.uk/history/ukcanals.htm. Now the canal is used for a great variety of recreational use. |
