Then he sent thechild to wait for the mail-cart on theroad, and lay back to sleep and wait forthe next day but one, Saturday. The Friday between was a day of tort-ure to Miss Angela Jones. She torturedVol. XVI.—25 herself all morning with doubt as towhat she ought to do. It seemed equal-ly horrible to licr, in her self-conscious-ness and wish to be honest, to tell himthe truth or to let him die in his delusion.
