Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon, Portugal Material: Lacquered with copper applications Collection: Calouste Gulbenkian Museum Note: Acquired by Mr Calouste Gulbenkian directly from the artist BIOGRAPHY The screen produced by the master lacquer artist Dunand, who studied this technique in 1912 with the Japanese artist Sezo Sugaware. With motifs drawn from nature, the chestnuts tones of the lacquer and the applications of copper transform this screen into a piece of intimate luxury. In a private moment or personal act of grooming, with overtones of classical antiquity. |
