Summary
[edit]DescriptionScotland and England (MODIS 2018-12-31).jpg |
English: The skies over Scotland were nearly cloud-free in late December 2018—a notable event for a country that, on average, has sunshine just over 25 percent of the time. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra acquired this true-color image on December 24.
Bright white snow caps some of the highest peaks of the Grampian Mountains and the Northern Highlands while a grayer low cloud (fog) sinks into the valleys of the Grampian Mountains. A long, thin line of fog also lays in Glen Mor, a fault zone marked by numerous elongated lochs (lakes), including the famous Loch Ness. |
