Summary
English: In 1867, the railroad came to Schwerte. A first train station was built. Already in 1900 the station became too small. A new, larger station was built, which is still in operation today.
Before the First World War, the lines to Hörde and Iserlohn were built. This also required a new platform with a roof, which was completed by 1926 at the latest. One of the supports of the roof between tracks 5 and 6, a portal support, now stands here on the station forecourt. It stood above the stairs leading from the pedestrian tunnel to the platform. During the Second World War, this support was badly damaged. The bullet holes from the weapons of fighter planes are still visible. Thus, the support is both a monument to the expansion and importance of rail traffic in Schwerte and a cautionary reminder of the futility of war. The idea to erect the shot-up portal gun at this location was realized by the Eisenbahnfreunde Schwerte with the support of many forces. |
