Notes

[edit]
  • David Keays writes in 2019: "The handwriting is Ursula’s (Brian’s Mum), so Papa is Hans Schwerin, Mutti is his second wife, Eva (Rutkowski).  Next to her is Werner Freudenberg, then Toni Schwerin (Klara Antonie Freudenberg), Hans’ sister Martha Salomon (widowed 1929), Tante Maria is unknown to me and finally, Oskar Freudenberg.  On the extreme left, the lady is identified as Erna but I only know of one Erna and that is Erna Guth, Hans Schwerin’s first wife who died 1921.  I believe the photo must have been taken in the thirties, so it can’t be Erna Guth and he would never have had current and ex-wives present together!  So I think Ursula probably misidentified the lady and she remains unknown."
  • Richard Arthur Norton writes on August 12, 2019: Erna Guth (1887-1921), Dr. Hans Bernhard Schwerin, M.D.'s (1878-1945) first wife, died in 1921 and Hans Bernhard Schwerin's second wife, Eva Amalie Rutkowski (1887-1990), is present in the photograph which creates a dilemma for dating the image. Eva Amalie Rutkowski (1887-1990) was his nurse, and they met during WWI (1914-1918), so it is possible that they would be both in the photograph and it dates from 1920. What determines the year of the image as 1920 or 1930 is how old Dr. Hans Bernhard Schwerin, M.D. (1878-1945) looks in the image. Is he age 42 in 1920, or 52 in 1930, or 62 in 1940?
  • Richard Arthur Norton writes on December 13, 2020: I am convinced that the image contains Erna Guth (1887-1921), so the image was taken circa 1920. It is not unusual that Eva Amalie Rutkowski (1887-1990) would be present at this dinner party, she was unmarried and the nurse for Dr. Hans Bernhard Schwerin, M.D. (1878-1945) at his medical practise. He would marry her after the death of his wife.
