Summary
[edit]DescriptionSchwaebischer-Vulkan aerial Schopflocher-Moor Randecker-Maar Limburg.jpg |
English: Aerial view, showing three landscape elements of totally diverting character: Schopflocher Moor, Randecker Maar, Limburg, Middle Swabian Alb and its foreland. However, all three are prominent remnants of Miocene volcanoes of the phreatomagmatic type, (Swabian volcano, "Schwäbischer Vulkan"), Baden-Württemberg, Germany), of which 356 were discovered so far. Intensive attempts of protection and recultivation of this raised bog, the only biotope of this kind found on the Swabian Alb, have been undertaken to compensate for the cutting of peat, which took place in 18th and 19th century. The not green colors around the grove - even in late springtime - show, there is some success. The fertile talus of the cone Limburg in the back, with its sedimented volcanic pipe underneath, is now covered with meadow orchards, vineyards, bushes and nut trees. |
