Summary
[edit]DescriptionSchule am Meer - Flaggenplatz 2271 2 3.jpg |
English: North-westerly view: The former flag place of progressive 'Schule am Meer' (= School by the Sea, 1925–1934) on Juist Island, East Frisia, Prussia. In 1928 it was erected on top of a dune in the South of 'Westfalenhalle' and in the East of 'Jenseits'. The flagpole was shaped like a Christian cross with two vertical flagpole ropes on each side to hoist flags, burgees and the like. It was used to hoist the school's flag on top and the burgees of the pupil's comradeships. The latter represented each of the up to nine comradeships which were formed by one teacher and up to ten pupils of all ages between 10 and about 18/20 years of age. Each of these burgees bore a sign which represented the individual name of the comradeship ('dolphins', 'seals', ...).
