[edit]DescriptionSchule am Meer - Arche 2169 70 71.jpg |
English: View from South: 'Arche' (= Ark) of progressive Schule am Meer (= School by the Sea) on Juist Island, North Sea. Built in 1927 the building is now part of the island's youth hostel. For the former school it was part of their accomodation facilities, occupied by the eldest pupils who lived in single rooms, a single female teacher and another teacher's family: Dr. Paul Reiner (1886–1932), his wife Anni who was also a teacher and their four daughters. The area in front of this picture marks the place where in 1928 another school building for the youngest pupils was planned but not realised. Instead 'Neufundland' was leased in 1929 to accomodate them. Next to this area in 1930 the school's girls erected their own wooden shack on top of a dune. It was named 'Gaurisankar' after a mountain of Himalaya. They used their shack for leisure-activities and discussions.
