Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Scholar's Memorial Opposite Broad Sanctuary outside Westminster Abbey is a Gothic column nearly 70 feet high, erected, in 1861, as a memorial to Lord Raglan, and other "old Westminster scholars," who fell in the Crimea, in 1854—5. At the top of the sculptured Aberdeen granite capital are four sitting figures, under Gothic canopies, representing the successive founders and benefactors of the School and Abbey—Edward the Confessor, Henry III., Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria and the whole is surmounted by a figure of St. George and the Dragon.
