English: Clearcutting for nature conservation reasons at the Pietz Bog (Pietzmoor) near Schneverdingen, Landkreis Heidekreis, Lower Saxony, Germany. The bog forms part of the famous Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve (Naturschutzgebiet Lüneburger Heide).
Deutsch: Wer behauptet, dass Kahlschläge bei Naturschützern verpönt sind? Im näheren Umfeld des Pietzmoors bei Schneverdingen, Landkreis Heidekreis, Niedersachsen, Deutschland, ist jedenfalls großflächig abgeholzt worden. Von der verantwortlichen VNP Stiftung Naturschutzpark Lüneburger Heide wird das etwas verniedlichend als „Entkusselungen“ im Zuge der Renaturierung des Pietzmoores verkauft. Hintergrund ist das Projekt „Fortsetzung der Hochmoor-Renaturierungsmaßnahmen im Pietzmoor-Komplex“: Die Bäume entziehen dem Moor zu viel Wasser und behindern so dessen Wiedervernässung und damit auch das Wachstum des Torfkörpers. Deshalb müssen sie hektarweise weichen. Dafür gibt es dann auch Geld des Landes Niedersachsens und der EU aus dem Fördertopf „Spezieller Arten- und Biotopschutz – SAB“. Der Eingriff in die Landschaft wurde von den Moorschützern bereits im Sommer 2019 als Erfolg gewertet: So haben sich in in den kleinen Senken zwischen den Baumstubben rasch feuchte Löcher gebildet, in denen bereits Torfmoose wachsen. Zudem schätzen Kiebitze und Große Brachvögel die großen kahlen und baumfreien Flächen als Brutplatz. Das abgebildete Areal gehört zum bekannten Naturschutzgebiet Lüneburger Heide.
