English: The Shio-Mgvime Monastery is a medieval monastic complex in Georgia, near the town of Mtskheta. It is located in a narrow limestone canyon on the northern bank of the river Mtkvari (Kura), some 30 km from Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital.
Deutsch: Kloster Schiomgwime in Georgien. Nach der Überlieferung wurde das Kloster durch assyrische Mönche und Missionare im 6. Jahrhundert nach Christus begründet. der heilige Schio soll hier die letzten Jahre seines Lebens als Eremit verbracht haben. Der Name "Schiomgwime" bedeutet soviel wie "Höhle des Schio". Die Anfänge des Klosters gehen auf die Zeit um 560-580 n. Chr. zurück. Das Kloster wurde später in seiner Bauweise mehrfach verändert und auch bei feindlichen Invasionen zerstört. jedoch wieder aufgebaut.
