Nederlands: Omschrijving: Scheepvaart, scheepsrampen, schipbreukelingen. Een groep geredde passagiers van het in brand geraakte stoomschip Volturno. Deze vijf kinderen, waarschijnlijk de kinderen Jablonecki, zijn gered van de brandende SS Volturno door scheepslui van de SS Devonian in de vroege uren van 10 oktober 1913. Zij zijn gefotografeerd op het dek van de Devonian na aankomst in de haven van Liverpool in de middag van 14 oktober 1913. Tijdens de reddingsactie werden de kinderen gescheiden van hun ouders. Hun vader werd gered door de SS Grosser Kurfürst en naar Hoboken (VS) gebracht, hun moeder door de SS Seydlitz en naar Philadelphia (VS) gebracht. De kinderen werden naar Rotterdam gezonden, waar zij moesten blijven totdat de verblijfplaatsen van hun ouders duidelijk waren. De vier oudste kinderen scheepten op 15 november 1913 op de SS Uranium in om naar New York te gaan. De jongste kind had mazelen en werd pas 30 december 1913 met zijn familie herenigd, zo’n tien weken na de ramp met de Volturno. |
