Summary
[edit]DescriptionScheepstakel Dordrecht.jpg |
English: Ship hoist, built in 1928, situated in the Wolwevershaven, opposite the commissioned by the metal works of L. Straatman located at the "Kuipershaven" quay. The installation was used to lift ships partly from the water so as the ship rudders and propellers or could be replaced or repaired from floating wooden platforms. The ship lift has a riveted steel construction with a cross-connection in the form of a lattice frame with N-girders. The hoist works on both sides are protected by means of a steel cover with a curved roof. Between the vertical pillars hangs a mat of braided rope in which the hull of a vessel can rest. These two pillars are at their top connected to a broad plate advertising the company name "L. Straatman", "Machine factory", "Metal works", "Repair" and "Building". This early twentieth-century ship lift is of general interest because of the historic building and the industrial archaeological value and because of the typological value. The hoist is of industrial archaeological importance as a rare example of an early twentieth-century device for ship repair in an inland port. The Hoist construction has historical importance because of the qualities of the design, the detailing and material application. The ship hoist has typological value and has a historical relationship with the functional activity of the Kuipershaven and the company of the fam. Straatman.
