Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Soldiers playing cards, during World War I. Three soldiers play cards sitting on the ground. A fourth stirs a pot, which sits in the entrance to their dugout. The rest of the 'camp' is visible behind them.

Soldiers would often go for some time without seeing any 'action', and would have to amuse themselves until the orders came through. With limited supplies one imagines a pack of cards would be a very useful possession.
