Summary

[edit]
Description

Today, May 16th, the Senate has voted to reject FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai's plan to end internet neutrality. Pai is a former Verizon lawyer. Verizon is one of the big cable companies that would stand to benefit financially from a rollback of net neutrality.

The vote was very close. Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski from Alaska and Susan Collins from Maine voted to save the open internet.

Next, the issue moves to the House of Representatives. If you value the freedom of the open internet from high fees and site blocking by cable companies, get on the phone and call your representative's office. Be a pest. Don't just call once. Call as many times as you can.

The open internet is a public good and a pillar of what remains of our democracy.
